Organic certification

Wondering why some wineries talk organic but you can’t find the term organic on their labels and website? It’s because they’re not organic – they are not certified to the Canada Organic Regulation.

There are many greenwashing words used in marketing these days but the term organic is protected – you can’t use it attached to products that have not been certified, like signage, websites and labels.

Biocyclic Vegan viticulture

L’Acadie Vineyards is certified organic by Pro-Cert since we established over 20 years ago and it’s a commitment that is rooted in passion and a strong moral compass. The organic logo is on all of our bottles.

Here are frequent questions that we get:

  • Is it more work? Yes, and worth it. There are yearly inspections including three audits for traceability, mass balance and sales. We treat the vineyard as a living ecosystem encouraging living soils for resilience…and enhanced terroir flavour.
  • Is it expensive? Not when you consider it a regular part of your expenses and it’s a priority over other costs such as marketing.
  • What about if you need a conventional chemical some years? You are either organic or you are not. No magic silver bullet from a chemical toolkit. Only allowable inputs, all naturally occurring, non-GMO and other requirements to protect the environment and your health.
  • What is Biocyclic Vegan? You have to be organic first before you apply for this higher level of certification for both the vineyard and winemaking. No animal inputs and biodiversity are at its core. Learn more
